Vernon Presley, his father and his brother built the two-room shotgun house in East Tupelo in 1934 with a $180 loan. Elvis was born there on January 8, 1935; his twin brother, Jesse Garon, was stillborn.
The family lost the house in 1938 when they could not repay the loan, and moved from place to place around Tupelo.
The house has been restored, and the grounds now include the small Assembly of God church where Elvis first heard gospel music.
