Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, lived in this 1871 cottage in Hartford's Nook Farm neighborhood from 1873 until her death in 1896.

Mark Twain lived next door. Stowe painted, gardened, and kept writing here in her later years.

The house is now a museum and a center for discussion of the social issues she wrote about.
