Oil heiress Aline Barnsdall hired Frank Lloyd Wright to build a house and arts complex on Olive Hill. Hollyhock House, finished in 1921, uses her favorite flower as an ornament throughout.
Barnsdall and Wright fought over costs, and she lived there only briefly before giving the house and much of the hill to the City of Los Angeles in 1927.
It is now part of Barnsdall Art Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
