Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in an upstairs bedroom of this two-story Queen Anne house, which belonged to his maternal grandparents.
He lived here until he was twelve, in the heart of Sweet Auburn, one of the most prosperous Black neighborhoods in the country, near Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The house is now part of Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and has been restored to its 1930s appearance.
