The Alcott family lived at Orchard House in Concord from 1858 to 1877. Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women here in 1868 at a small shelf desk her father built for her.
Her sister May, the model for Amy, sketched on the walls and door frames of her bedroom; the drawings are still there.
Orchard House has been a museum since 1912, and about 80 percent of the furnishings belonged to the Alcotts.
